Just read about the winning from the Pusan Film Festival "Wonderful Town" looks to be the breakout title of the three, with almost universal acclaim from critics (including myself in the previous dispatch), an award in hand from the Pusan Film Festival, and a slot in the upcoming Berlin Fest's Forum section. With its subtle romance wedded to an undercurrent of post-disaster violence, it's a haunting piece of work and a deserving winner.

Imagine having the time and money to go back to school to do whatever your mind desired, what would it be? I was jut thinking about that but couldn't even be sure what I'd do I have so many interests.

Know any local filmmakers who want to submit soon?

What Your Pizza Reveals
People may tell you that you have a small appetite... but you aren't under eating. You just aren't a pig.

You consider pizza to be bread... very good bread. You fit in best in the Midwest part of the US.

You like food that's traditional and well crafted. You aren't impressed with "gourmet" foods.

You are dependable, loyal, and conservative with your choices.

You are cultured and intellectual. You should consider traveling to Vienna.

The stereotype that best fits you is geek. You're the type most likely to order pizza to avoid leaving your computer.

Say this in a robotic voice to yourself:

"I am a robot. I am a paranoid android...."

Or I am a Googlephone...

It's not fair to laugh at the huge circuit boards: These are design prototypes and will of course be shrunk down to a fraction of this size. But despite the fugly appearance, these Android phones are the buzz of the show. At the NEC booth, the guy pointed me straight past the other boards saying, "This one is the Android. That's the only one anybody is interested in."

All I can hear echoing in my head are these lyrics by Radiohead "and it wears me out".

Tee hee made YOU look, you are bad, or as they say in North Dakota BYyyyyyyAAD.

If you like The Sea and Cake mixed up with Modest Mouse you might like Toronto's Broken Social Scene. I found the Handjobs for Holidays song quite a lovely title but not just that, the song rocks pretty hard too. Their 2005 album is self titled and definitely worth a grab in the record store.

My homeland has been producing a lot of good shite lately, Montreal's Wolf Parade has some tasty licks too. They seem like a touch influenced by Arcade Fire but they don't really sound like them if that makes sense. The lead singer's voice goes all over the place exploring which is something I find endearing. They feel they've been stealing music from Bowie and Black Francis for the last 30 years but I think they have their own definitive sound.

Sufjan Stevens is much like the Canadian sound even though they are Illinoise-ing around the town singing songs like Chicago. They could easily have the longest titles of song names I've ever seen. Look at these: To the Workers of the Rock River Valley Region, I have an Idea Concerning your Predicament and it involes an inner tube, bath mats and 21 able bodied men.

With the
Illinoise album they pulled off an interesting feat by trying to sing a song for all American states. There is one called The Black Hawk War, or, How to Demolish an Entire Civilization and Still Feel Good About Yourself in the Morning, or We apoligize for the inconvenience But you're going to have to leave now, or "I have fought the Big Knives."
Back at home in California we've got spacey murky warm songs from Rogue Wave I'd recommend their album from Sept 2007 called Asleep at Heaven's Gate. You may have heard their Lake Michigan song on the radio but they certainly have come into their own with their own sound this last year. Sometimes bands get worse and sound over produced. The thing is... I'm ok with bands making money it's that over produced pop-puke I can't seem to stand. I think these folks have kept their eyes on the prize however. I also really love Publish My Love from their 2005 album Descended Like Vultures.

Check out this bad boy about a dark bunny tale, not tail. All the way in from London, but they will share it with us on the interweb...

I went to Fry's tonight and found some canvas to print on to try out this cool wristlet I want to make. Yes I just made up that word.
